Ryan Gosling Promotes ‘Project Hail Mary’ With Convincing Final ‘Jeopardy!’ Skit
· Rolling StoneRyan Gosling knows how to throw one hell of a Hail Mary. In a Jeopardy!-themed promotional video for his upcoming film Project Hail Mary, Gosling pulls off a surprising win in Final Jeopardy!
During the scripted video, Gosling and his fellow “contestants” are asked to name “this specific type of injury has made news at least since 1967 when it happened to Red Sox star Jim Longborg.” One of the “contestants” answers wrong while the other writes the correct answer: “ACL” for anterior cruciate ligament injury.

In the video, Gosling is visibly stumped and writes “What is IDK?” on his prompter. Of course, that actually ends up being correct. “I’m told by our judges we will accept that,” Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings says, explaining, “An ACL tear is also known as IDK, internal derangement of the knee.” Since Gosling wagered everything and was leading, he wins. “What a Hail Mary from our champion Ryan Gosling,” Jennings adds, driving the whole video’s point home. But if that wasn’t enough, the clip ends with “Believe in the Hail Mary” written across the screen in red.
It’s a clever promotional video for Project Hail Mary, which arrives in theaters on March 20. Based on the science fiction novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the movie follows science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling), who, per its description, “wakes up alone on a spaceship light-years from Earth. As his memory returns, he uncovers a mission to stop a mysterious substance killing the sun, and save Earth. An unexpected friendship may be the key.”
