Mother of ‘Rust’ Victim Halyna Hutchins, Olga Solovey, Dead at 67
· Rolling StoneOlga Solovey — the mother of Halyna Hutchins, who was fatally shot on the set of the Western film Rust — has died at the age of 67.
Solovey’s death was confirmed by lawyers for Hutchins’ family, who said she was living in Kyiv, Ukraine, when she died on Feb. 24. Solovey was “heartbroken because of the sudden and unexpected death of Halyna,” a statement read.
In order to continue seeking Solovey’s consortium claims related to Hutchins’ death, the family’s legal team stated that will be filing an “Application for the Appointment of Limited Representative in New Mexico” with Solovey’s surviving daughter, Svetlana Zemko. They also plan to file a motion to have Solovey’s estate officially substituted as a party in their legal action.
“Olga’s death will not deter us from seeking justice in Olga’s name,” attorneys vowed in their statement.

On Oct. 21, 2021, actor Alec Baldwin discharged a replica revolver that fatally shot Hutchins, a cinematographer, on the New Mexico set of Rust. In the aftermath of the fatal shooting, Baldwin faced a felony involuntary manslaughter count that was dismissed at trial. The actor also faced civil lawsuits from multiple crew members and members of Hutchins’ family.
Hutchins’ husband previously settled with Baldwin and the film’s producers, but her mom, Solovey sued Baldwin in New Mexico alongside Mamie Mitchell, the Rust script supervisor who initially sued in Los Angeles before her claims were moved to Santa Fe. An amended complaint includes similar claims of assault, negligence, and emotional distress.
