The film, which is nearing the Rs 300 crore mark globally, was scheduled to release in the Telugu states on September 18. However, multiple developments in the run-up to its release have raised serious questions over whether the dubbed version will actually make it to theatres on Friday.

Earlier, India Today learnt that the original presenter-distributor had stepped away, and now the film seems to have been stuck with the censor board. The Telugu version appears to be facing one hurdle after another. With just days left for its scheduled release, there has been no Telugu trailer, a planned press conference did not take place, and the film's promotional campaign has failed to gather momentum.

Here are seven key things to know about the uncertainty surrounding Hanuman Ansh's Telugu release.

1. Original presenter-distributor backed out

Reputed filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas had stepped forward to present Hanuman Ansh in Telugu under Fortune Four Cinemas. His association had given the dubbed version credibility and visibility in the Telugu market. However, India Today learnt that Trivikram has now stepped away from the Telugu release, with sources indicating that the deal fell through.

“There have been some last-minute problems because of which the teaser launch event that was scheduled to take place in Hyderabad on September 15 was cancelled. Trivikram will no longer be presenting the Telugu release,” the source told India Today Digital.

There has been no official confirmation from the filmmaker or the makers about his exit yet.

With the original presenter-distributor no longer involved, the immediate challenge is to find a new body to take the film to theatres in the Telugu states.

2. Even with a new distributor, the censor hurdle remains

A change in presenter or distributor alone may not solve the problem. Latest reports suggest that the Telugu version is yet to receive its censor certificate. A Track Tollywood report claimed that the film was still awaiting censor clearance.

That puts the September 18 release date under considerable pressure. Even if a new presenter or distributor comes on board, the film still needs to complete the certification process before it can be released theatrically.

At this point, there has been no official confirmation from the makers about the censor status.

3. September 18 release date is fast approaching

Hanuman Ansh is officially scheduled to release in Telugu on September 18, which is two days from now. But with the certification reportedly still pending and the promotional campaign yet to take off, the release date itself now appears uncertain.

A film cannot proceed with a theatrical release without the required certificate. With only a short window left before September 18, whether the Telugu version can complete the process in time remains a major question. If the certificate is not obtained in time, the film could be forced to move to a later date.

4. No Telugu trailer yet

Another major indication that the film's release is in limbo is the absence of a Telugu trailer. For a film entering a new language market, the trailer is crucial to introduce the dubbed version to its target audience and create theatrical awareness. Yet, with the scheduled release just two days away, a Telugu trailer has not been released.

The absence becomes more noticeable because the film is coming off a major Hindi theatrical run. A successful dubbed release would ordinarily be expected to have a promotional campaign that communicates the film's appeal specifically to Telugu audiences.

Instead, the Telugu version has remained largely quiet.

5. The planned press conference did not happen

The promotional uncertainty was further highlighted by the cancellation of a planned press interaction. A press conference associated with the Telugu release did not take place as scheduled. This came amid reports of changes surrounding the film's Telugu presentation.

Earlier, the makers had also announced teaser launches on September 14 on YouTuber and September 15 via press conference, but neither event took place. The September 15 teaser launch was cancelled at the last minute.

With no trailer, no teaser launch and no press conference taking place, the promotional build-up for a film supposedly releasing on September 18 has been conspicuously absent.

6. Will Telugu audiences connect with the film?

Even if the release gets back on track, Hanuman Ansh faces another important question: its emotional connect in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The film is centred on Neem Karoli Baba, who was born in Uttar Pradesh and has a strong following in parts of North India and the West. While spiritual and devotional subjects have traditionally found audiences in the Telugu states, the central figure in Hanuman Ansh may not have the same level of familiarity among Telugu-speaking audiences.

Interestingly, the Hindi version of Hanuman Ansh is already running in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This gives audiences in the Telugu states access to the original even before the Telugu-dubbed version arrives.

That could potentially limit the incentive for audiences who have already watched the Hindi version to return for the dubbed film.

Speaking to India Today Digital, trade analyst Ramesh Bala said the film's Hindi success cannot automatically be used to predict its Telugu performance.

“Hanuman Ansh's success story deserves special attention. There's no doubt about it. But, its Telugu release could be a costly decision for the makers. If you take the Hindi film, it was picked up after only two weeks in the Hindi market. So, we have to see if Hanuman Ansh will see a similar trajectory in the Telugu market. Also, there are several other films, including Nani's The Paradise, that are lined up for release in the coming weeks, so it may not have the luxury of taking its own time to pick up like it did in the Hindi market," he said.

He also pointed to the question of familiarity with Neem Karoli Baba.

When asked if the Telugu version would perform well, he said, “We have to wait and see. While Neem Karoli Baba has a great following in the North, it could not be the case in the Telugu states or in the South. He is relatively unknown here. Right now, it's difficult to predict how it will perform at the box office.”

7. Can it recreate the Hindi box-office phenomenon?

This could ultimately be the biggest test for the Telugu version. Hanuman Ansh's Hindi success was not built solely on a massive opening. The film had a slow start and gained momentum over time as word of mouth spread. That trajectory helped transform it into a major theatrical success.

Replicating that journey in Telugu could be difficult. Apart from whether Neem Karoli Baba's story will generate the same emotional response, the film is entering a market where several other releases are lined up in the coming weeks.

A slow-burn film needs time, sustained shows and audience word of mouth to build momentum. New releases can put pressure on screens and show allocations, potentially making that gradual growth harder. For now, however, the immediate question is much simpler: will Hanuman Ansh release in Telugu on September 18 at all?

The makers are yet to officially announce a postponement, and there is no confirmation yet on the reported exit of Trivikram Srinivas. Until those questions are addressed, the Telugu version of one of the year's biggest Hindi blockbusters remains firmly in limbo.
