Legendary singer Asha Bhosle died on Sunday at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Her last rites will be held with state honours at Shivaji Park on Monday afternoon.
Bhosle, who ruled Indian music for over seven decades with her versatile and memorable songs, was a towering figure in the Indian music industry. Her body was brought to her residence in Lower Parel following her death.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Bhosle's home on Sunday evening to pay his respects and offered floral tributes. State Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, along with legislators Sunil Shinde and Prasad Lad, also paid homage to the late singer.
Asha Bhosle's funeral details
Shelar confirmed that a state funeral will be held for Asha Bhosle at 4 pm on April 13. The singer’s family has arranged for people to pay their last respects at 11 am on Monday at Casa Grande in Lower Parel, where she lived.
Her son, Anand Bhosle, informed reporters about the final arrangements, stating that the last rites would be performed at Shivaji Park at 4 pm on Monday. Fans and well-wishers will have the opportunity to bid farewell to the music icon earlier in the day.
Asha Bhosle was widely known as Asha tai and was honoured with prestigious awards, including the Padma Vibhushan (India's second-highest civilian award) and Maharashtra Bhushan for her contribution to Indian music.
Her death marks the end of an era in Hindi music, where her voice had left an indelible mark across generations.
