The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations have cancelled their in-person announcement scheduled for Wednesday morning due to severe wildfires and strong winds in the Los Angeles area. The nominations, which celebrate outstanding performances in film and television, will now be announced via press release instead of the planned live event hosted by actors Joey King and Cooper Koch.
The wildfires have been particularly destructive in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood of Los Angeles and in Altadena, near Pasadena, California, where homes and structures are being engulfed by the flames.
Kristen Bell is set to host the 31st annual awards ceremony, which will be streamed live on Netflix on February 23 at 8 pm Eastern from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The previous year’s ceremony was hosted by Idris Elba.
The SAG Awards are often seen as a reliable indicator for the Oscars, particularly in the acting and best picture categories.
Due to the fires, several entertainment events have been cancelled, including the premiere of the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s movie Unstoppable, and the debut of Universal Pictures’ upcoming horror film Wolf Man.
