Amid the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires, claimed that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is contemplating canceling the 97th Oscars ceremony, set for March 2. Earlier, the Oscars nominations faced a second delay as wildfires raged in Los Angeles, disrupting Hollywood's awards season.

Following the delay in nominations, it is reportedly believed the prestigious award ceremony might get cancelled. However, The Hollywood Reporter refuted such claims.

This happened after The Sun, on January 14 shared a story about the possible changes in this year’s award ceremony after the wildfires. They stated that the official Academy Award committees are monitoring the situation daily, led by stars like Tom Hanks, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, and Steven Spielberg.

When The Hollywood Reporter reached out to senior authorities at the Academy, they shared that no such plan is being contemplated to delay the awards and no such advisory committee exists.

The latest decision from the board, announced on January 13, confirmed that the Oscars ceremony, scheduled in 47 days, will proceed on its set date without any changes.

Following the tragedy of the Los Angeles wildfires, the board committee, which includes four members who lost their homes in the fires, has made several adjustments. These include extending the Oscar nominations voting window, delaying the announcement of the nominations, canceling this year's Oscar Nominees Luncheon and more.

The new date for the 97th Oscars nominations is now set for January 23, as confirmed by Academy chief executive Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang. The announcement will be made virtually without in-person media coverage.

The Oscars ceremony is still slated to take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.
