Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, a French-made film in Spanish, leads the pack with an impressive 13 nominations, including Best Picture. Among its honors is a groundbreaking Best Actress nod for Karla Sofa Gasc³n, marking her as the first openly trans actor to be nominated for an Oscar.
Originally slated for release on January 17, the nominations were delayed due to the devastating wildfires that swept through parts of Los Angeles on January 7. In response to the widespread destruction, the Academy extended its voting period and postponed the announcement twice.
