The final trailer for Supergirl, offering a fuller look at Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El has been released. The new promo also reveals the protagonist defying Superman's ideals.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, the latest footage of the upcoming superhero film sets up Kara's story ahead of its June 26 release and also previews Jason Momoa's cinematic debut as Lobo.

The trailer gives a wider look at the film's central conflict, with Kara and Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, emerging as unlikely allies against a common enemy. It also points to the film's links with the wider DC Universe, including Kara's dynamic with Superman and the continuing story around Krypton.

In the opening scene, Kara, while referring to Kal-El aka Superman says, "Here is the thing, my cousin and I have very different ideas about what it needs to be a hero. He sees the good in everyone when I see the truth." The film hints at Kara'a aggressive version of superhero which goes against the conventional norms while combating villains.

Supergirl has been written by Ana Nogueira and is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain drawn from the eight-issue series.

The film will also revisit a major plot thread from Superman, following the reveal about Jor-El and Lara's true intentions in sending Kal-El to Earth.

David Krumholtz, who plays Kara's father Zor-El, said in a November 2025 interview that the new film would add more detail to that story, as reported by Screen Rant. He said, "I'll just say that I'm thrilled to be the next piece of telling the story of Krypton and further clarifying what the House of El is all about."

David Corenswet is also part of the Supergirl cast, after it was confirmed in 2025 that he would return as Superman in Kara's solo film. During the teaser trailer launch at CCXP 2025, Alcock and Gillespie said the two DC cousins would have at least one scene played entirely in Kryptonian.

Beyond this summer's release, the film is also part of DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, with further appearances for the character already in view after 2026. DC Studios' Man of Tomorrow is currently filming in Atlanta, and Gunn has confirmed that Supergirl will appear in that film.

Whether the 2026 project will set up Alcock's return the following year is not yet clear. However, 2027 is set to be the third year in a row in which the Kryptonian cousins appear together.

The new DCU project will mark the first time Supergirl has had a solo film since 1984, when Helen Slater played Kara in live action. The character was later introduced into the DCEU film timeline through 2023's The Flash, in which Sasha Calle played her.

Supergirl is co-produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
