  • Suriya's character is shown balancing forceful street action with legal strategy

The trailer of Karuppu, starring Suriya, dropped on Sunday, offering a glimpse into an action-driven courtroom drama centred on a long-pending case. Directed by RJ Balaji, who also plays the antagonist, the film also features Trisha Krishnan and is set to release in theatres on May 14.

The trailer positions Suriya in a dual space – inside the courtroom and out on the streets – as he takes on a case that appears to have been ignored for years. It blends legal conflict with action set pieces, hinting at a story that moves between justice and retribution.

The trailer opens on a sombre note, showing an elderly man and his granddaughter repeatedly summoned to court, only to be treated without dignity as their case drags on. Trisha plays a lawyer attempting to help them, but faces a tough opponent in the defence counsel, played by RJ Balaji.

As the conflict builds, Suriya’s character, Karuppu, enters the picture. He is shown as determined to push the case forward, taking on both the legal system and those who stand in his way. The trailer suggests a character who operates across two worlds – arguing in court while also engaging in physical confrontations outside it.

The film appears to present Suriya as a lawyer with a more aggressive, action-led approach, with several fight sequences intercut with courtroom drama. The background score by Sai Abhyankkar underlines the high-energy tone of the trailer.
