Despite the steady weekend trend, the film's overall performance has been viewed as underwhelming for a YRF Spy Universe title, particularly considering its wide release across 7,534 screens in India.
The film has also received a mixed response from critics. In its review, India Today rated Alpha 2.5 stars, appreciating Alia Bhatt's performance as Sita while criticising the screenplay for its inconsistency.
A part of the review read, “That unevenness becomes Alpha’s biggest problem. The film keeps piling on twists, and while a few works, the constant barrage eventually becomes exhausting. Instead of building intrigue, the screenplay focusses more on building shock value.”
Directed by Shiv Rawail and written by Uday Chopra, Alpha released in theatres on July 3. The seventh installment in the YRF Spy Universe also features Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Dia Mirza in key roles.
