The final trailer of Digger, starring Tom Cruise in the title role, has been released, offering a closer look at the chaos surrounding the unpredictable oil tycoon Digger Rockwell. Directed by Alejandro G Inarritu, the film blends high-stakes action with dark humour and satire.

The trailer opens with Digger at the centre of a massive disaster linked to his drilling operation. The catastrophe triggers a tsunami and leaves destruction in its wake, with the death toll running into hundreds of thousands. As the scale of the crisis becomes clear, Digger finds himself facing intense public anger and political pressure.

He is branded a villain by those around him, but Digger does not appear ready to accept the blame. Instead, he believes he is the only person capable of solving the crisis. The trailer sees him attempting to take charge of a situation that he may have helped create in the first place.

At one point, the film's increasingly absurd situation is summed up with the declaration, "We trust Digger!" As powerful figures become caught up in the unfolding crisis, they look to the oil tycoon to somehow get them out of the mess.

The trailer also hints at the film's unusual mix of spectacle, tension and humour. Digger's attempts to present himself as a saviour sit alongside the growing threat of a disaster with global consequences, setting up what appears to be an unpredictable ride.

Tom Cruise leads star-studded cast

Cruise headlines the film as Digger Rockwell, with Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Oscar-nominated Sandra Hller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Oscar-nominated Jesse Plemons also part of the cast.

Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman and Sophie Wilde also star in the film.

Digger marks another ambitious project from Inarritu, who has directed films including Birdman and The Revenant. He has also co-written the screenplay with Oscar winners Alexander Dinelaris and Nicols Giacobone, along with Sabina Berman. The story comes from Inarritu and Berman. The film has been produced by Inarritu, Mary Parent, Tom Cruise and Michael Sharp.

Behind the camera, Inarritu has reunited with several of his previous collaborators, including Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and editor Stephen Mirrione. Dennis Gassner serves as production designer, while Jacqueline West has designed the costumes.

Shot entirely in VistaVision, Digger promises to bring its large-scale disaster sequences to the big screen. The film is set to be released in cinemas and IMAX across India on October 2, 2026. Warner Bros Pictures will distribute the film.
