Spotify is rolling out a new "Verified by Spotify" badge. The company said the badge will indicate that an artist's profile has been reviewed and meets its standards for "authenticity and trust." The move comes amid the growing rise of AI-generated music.

Art is an expression of the human inner self, originating from deep within. Then came the era of artificial intelligence, leaving humanity in a state of puzzlement as it tries to distinguish what originates from humans and what is created by AI. Spotify has been experiencing a similar issue. Last year, an AI-generated brand amassed 1 million streams on the platform within weeks, and several similar instances have been reported earlier this year as well. In other words, AI-generate content is on the rise so much so that Spotify is now introducing a new “Verified by Spotify” badge on the platform. With this move, the company claims to bring more transparency to music streaming in the age of artificial intelligence.
How the ‘Verified by Spotify’ system works
The new badge will appear on artist profiles that have been reviewed and meet Spotify’s standards for authenticity and trust. According to the company, verified artists must show consistent listener engagement over time, comply with platform policies, and display clear signals of being a real person — such as live performances, merchandise, or linked social media accounts. At launch, profiles that primarily represent AI-generated or AI-persona artists will not be eligible for verification.
In addition, the company is rolling out “Artist Profile Protection” in beta, a feature that gives creators more control over what appears on their profiles, helping prevent unauthorised or misattributed content.
Timeline of rollout
The badge will begin rolling out over the coming weeks and will be visible on artist profiles as well as in search results, marked by a light green checkmark alongside the “Verified by Spotify” label. The platform noted that more than 99% of artists that users actively search for will be verified at launch, covering hundreds of thousands of creators across genres and regions, including a large number of independent artists.
Alongside verification, Spotify is also introducing a new artist details section, currently in beta, that highlights key information such as career milestones, release activity, and touring history. The company describes this feature as similar to “nutrition facts,” offering users a quick snapshot of an artist’s presence and activity on the platform.
Spotify is not the only platform where AI-generated content is gaining traction. Last month, in mid-April, a track titled “Celebrate Me” by IngaRose reached No. 1 on the global iTunes charts. However, IngaRose is reportedly not a real person and is believed to be part of the growing wave of AI-generated artists, with links to producer Dallas Little. As AI-created artists begin topping charts across music platforms, it highlights how rapidly AI is reshaping the industry — and why authenticity is becoming a major concern. This also explains why platforms like Spotify are introducing new measures to improve transparency and trust.
