Alia-Ranbir to Kareena-Saif: Bollywood couples ditch matchy-matchy at Ambani Ganpati

Whenever it's a celebration at the Ambani house, one song that perfectly fits the background score is a line from 'Om Shanti Om's' Deewangi Deewangi song: “Aaj zameen pe utare kitne sitare hain...” And at the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration on September 14, the scene was not much different either.

Several Bollywood celebrities arrived with their plus one at the Antilia and the couples' fashion was simply hard to miss. There was no great pressure to look like two halves of the same outfit. From Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor to Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, the couples looked coordinated yet avoided going all matchy-matchy for their festive outfits.

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor

Alia Bhatt did the usual — she kept things elegant in a sea-foam green custom saree from House of Masaba, pairing it with a strapless corset blouse. The oversized chandbalis, statement bangles and minimal makeup made it all things festive, and how. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor went for the more maximalist route in a deep blue kurta and a heavily embroidered floral jacket.

They didn't exactly match, but the green-blue palette made the two looks sit nicely together. Also, do not miss Bhatt's tasselled purse.

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan

The royals arrived in bold colours, and how. And you can trust them to slay always...like, really always.

Bebo chose a bright mustard-yellow kurta set with intricate embroidery by Anamika Khanna and statement jewellery. The bold eyes and a mustard bindi completed the festive attire. Meanwhile, Saif decided to bring the spotlight to his typical Bengali kurta-and-dhoti style, again. He went for a striking red kurta with white dhoti.

No coordinated pastel palette here. No twinning. Just two very festive colours doing their own thing and somehow making sense together.

Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal

The new parents went for soft glam this time. Katrina Kaif wore a custom Jigyam traditional pastel mint-green anarkali, letting her richly embroidered, multicoloured dupatta do the talking. Vicky Kaushal complemented her in a classic all-white ensemble, pairing an embroidered kurta with breezy flared trousers.

This was perhaps the most quietly coordinated of the lot. The colours weren't identical, but the overall mood was similar: muted but vibrant at the same time, elegant and very festive.

Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra

Kiara and Sidharth brought a rather sophisticated festive palette to the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration at the Ambanis'.

Advani draped a Devnaagri blush-pink saree. The shimmer chanderi and gajji silk ensemble was elevated with intricate dori, dabka and sequin embroidery. Online, the Naaz saree set is priced at Rs 55,000. She paired it with a green choker set, adding a pop of colour to her festive look.

On the other hand, Sidharth opted for a traditional floral kurta dressing, complementing his wife perfectly.

Genelia Deshmukh and Riteish Deshmukh

Well, the internet's pookie couple was doused in vibrant and maximalist festive dressing for the occasion. Genelia was dressed in a green lehenga set with a heavy floral dupatta. She paired it with a polki choker and a layered necklace too. Complementing his wife, Riteish Deshmukh looked suave in a dark olive-green bandhgala-dhoti set.

The Deshmukhs, honestly, know their festive fashion game too well.

The celebration saw a star-studded guest list, which also included Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Rekha, Kajol, Janhvi Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Disha Patani, Karan Johar, among others.
