Raja Shivaji box office Day 2: Riteish's film holds firm despite slight dip

Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji continued its strong box office run on Day 2 despite a slight dip. The Marathi version remained the main contributor, while the Hindi release posed a steady start.

Riteish Deshmukh’s period drama Raja Shivaji continued its strong run at the box office on Day 2, even as collections dipped slightly after its opening day.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 10.55 crore nett across 6,275 shows on Saturday, taking its total domestic nett collection to Rs 21.9 crore.

The film, which opened to record-breaking numbers in the Marathi market on Friday, has also witnessed a decent start in Hindi. Its gross collection now stands at Rs 26.06 crore, with the Marathi version continuing to lead the overall performance.

Day 2 box office

Directed by and starring Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji traces the bravery of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. After an impressive opening, the film saw a minor decline on its second day. Of the Day 2 earnings, the Hindi version contributed around Rs 3.40 crore, while the Marathi version brought in approximately Rs 7.15 crore.

Occupancy figures on Day 2 showed a clear gap between the two versions. The Hindi version recorded an overall occupancy of around 20.46 per cent across 3,041 shows, indicating a modest turnout. In comparison, the Marathi version performed much better, registering an overall occupancy of 55.71 per cent.

About the film

Produced by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, Raja Shivaji features an ensemble cast including Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Boman Irani, Amol Gupte and Genelia Deshmukh. Salman Khan also makes a cameo appearance.

The film was released in theatres on May 1.
