Shakira takes over Rio: 2 million fans, fireworks and one epic show
Shakira opened her free Copacabana Beach concert in Rio on a grand note. The night stood out for the huge turnout and her first live performance of Choka Choka with Anitta.

Shakira began her free concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio on May 2 under a full moon, opening the show with drones forming a she-wolf in the sky as she took the stage. The concert was held on a large stage near the Copacabana Palace. An estimated two million fans attended the open-air show.
Videos shared from the venue showed the beach lit up in red and packed with fans as Shakira performed in front of the crowd. Clips from the concert showed the singer performing tracks including Can't Remember to Forget You, I'm Here and Waka Waka, among others. She was later joined by Anitta, with the two performing Choka Choka together for the first time.

Copacabana Beach has also hosted other major free pop concerts in recent years, including Madonna, who drew 1.6 million attendees in 2024, and Lady Gaga, who performed for around 2.1 million fans in 2025.
Shakira's accolades
Shakira has sold more than 90 million records and won four Grammy Awards and 15 Latin Grammy Awards. Her catalogue includes global hits such as Hips Don't Lie, Waka Waka and Whenever, Wherever, and she has performed in Brazil multiple times.
Her 2025 tour, which began in Rio, has earned a Guinness World Records title for the highest-grossing tour by a Latin artist.
