Lyricist Prasoon Joshi has been appointed as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Saturday.
With this role, Joshi will head the Prasar Bharati Board, bringing with him experience across multiple fields including cinema, advertising and public communication. Over the years, he has been involved in several prominent campaigns and creative projects.
Joshi has been serving as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since 2017, where he has overseen film certification and worked closely with members of the film industry.
Prior to this, he held leadership roles in the advertising sector, including CEO of McCann Worldgroup India and Chairman of McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific. He is also a trustee at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
Apart from his administrative roles, Joshi is widely known in the film industry for his work as a lyricist. He rose to prominence with Rang De Basanti, writing songs such as Roobaroo, and later gained appreciation for Maa from Taare Zameen Par.
His also wrote lyrics for and collaborated on the screenplay of Delhi-6, besides scripting and writing the songs of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, for which he has received multiple awards.
Joshi’s appointment marks a new phase in his career as he takes on a key role in India’s public broadcasting system.
