Jana Nayagan producer K Venkat Narayana on Sunday said the unreleased film, starring Vijay, will release as soon as it receives clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). His remarks came shortly after Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

The film, which was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, has remained unreleased for over four months due to delays in certification. Narayana attended the swearing-in ceremony and addressed the film’s status while speaking to reporters.

“We are waiting for the CBFC certificate. As soon as we get it, we will release the film,” Narayana said, congratulating Vijay on his political milestone.

“We are very happy. Congratulations to Vijay Sir on becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A new chapter begins. I am sure he will fulfil all his promises. Jana Nayagan will release as soon as we get the certificate,” he added.

Following the election results, the production house KVN Productions also shared a congratulatory message for Vijay on X, calling his victory a historic moment.

Delay and certification process

Jana Nayagan has been awaiting certification for several months. Reports suggest the film was first screened for the CBFC examining committee in December 2025, which recommended several cuts and indicated it could be granted a U/A certificate after revisions.

The producers are said to have implemented the suggested changes and resubmitted the film. However, complaints over certain scenes reportedly led to the film being referred to a revising committee, further delaying the process.

The prolonged certification has impacted the film’s release schedule, including its international rollout and distribution plans. The delay has also led to the film being leaked online during this period.

About the film

Billed as Vijay’s final film as an actor, Jana Nayagan also stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in key roles.

The film was initially slated for a January 2026 release but continues to remain on hold pending certification. Vijay had earlier alleged a “conspiracy” behind the delay, claiming that political factors may have influenced the process.
