Dhurandhar actor Suvinder Vicky says Aditya Dhar knew cuss words won't be beeped

Suvinder Vicky said Aditya Dhar was certain his abusive Dhurandhar lines would not be cut. He added that the director still drew a line at language that could hurt sentiments.

Actor Suvinder Vicky has opened up about the abusive dialogues written for his character in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, revealing that director Aditya Dhar was confident the profanity would not be censored or beeped out. However, Vicky said Dhar also drew a line when it came to language that could hurt sentiments. While the film did undergo CBFC-mandated cuts to some of the language, the dialogues were not completely censored.

Vicky played the father of Arjun Rampal’s character in Dhar’s revenge drama. His casting had surprised some viewers when the film released in theatres earlier this year, particularly because his role, though brief, featured several confrontational exchanges with his on-screen son.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Vicky said the credit for the character and its language went to both Dhar and the film’s writing team. He also clarified that the profanities were part of the script and were not his own additions.

“I’m lucky to work with great directors. In this, the credit goes to Aditya Dhar and to me also, because I also gave my hundred percent effort. Also, gaaliyon ka shrey hamare script writer ko bhi jayega (The credit for all the abusive language would also go to our screenwriter), because I didn’t make any of those, that was all written in the script,” he said.

Vicky recalled joking with Dhar about the amount of profanity in his dialogues. He said he told the director that his entire performance might end up being reduced to a series of beeps and that he could have been cast as a mute character instead.

According to Vicky, Dhar was certain that the dialogues would remain intact. However, when the actor considered improvising further, the director stopped him and set a boundary on the kind of language they would use.

“He said we will not go to mothers and sisters. It is also our responsibility to not hurt sentiments in films,” Vicky said.

The final cut of the film, however, does feature a moment in which his character uses a derogatory familial reference.

Vicky also spoke about his equation with Arjun Rampal, with whom he had worked in Satluj. He said their earlier collaboration helped establish an understanding between them before they worked together on Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

“We shared an equation because, before Dhurandhar, we had worked in Satluj together. When I warned him about my dialogues in the film, he told me, ‘It is part of life, camera ke samne faad de’ (It is part of life; give it everything in front of the camera),” he said.
