In Short

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 digital pre-loading will begin on November 10 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles.
  • The open-world game requires up to 212 GB of storage space making it the largest Rockstar release ever.
  • Physical retail copies will not include a disc and will only offer a digital download code inside the box.

Rockstar Games has delivered some exciting news for fans just weeks ahead of the Grand Theft Auto 6 launch. The digital pre-loading date for the highly anticipated open-world crime game has been moved up. Players will now be able to start downloading GTA 6 on November 10 for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

This gives gamers nine full days to prepare before the official release on November 19. Originally, the pre-load was scheduled for November 12, but the developer has offered an extra two days to help players manage the massive download.

Massive Storage Requirement and Console Timings

The early download window is completely necessary because GTA 6 will take up a lot of space. Rockstar has confirmed that the game will require up to 212 GB of storage, depending on your specific console. This officially makes it the largest Rockstar release ever, coming in slightly higher than a recent report that claimed the game would need 210 GB.

The exact time you can start this massive download depends on the console you own. For PlayStation 5 users, pre-loading unlocks right at midnight in your local time on Tuesday, November 10.

Meanwhile, Xbox Series X/S owners will get access starting at 12:00 AM GMT globally on November 10. Since the Xbox release is tied to a single global time, players will need to calculate their local time zone equivalent to know exactly when the download begins.

Physical Copies Will Not Include a Disc

Rockstar also shared a crucial update for players waiting to buy a physical copy from a store. Retailers will begin selling the physical editions on November 12. However, these retail boxes will not include a traditional game disc.

They will be sold as "code-in-box" versions, meaning buyers will only find a digital redemption code inside the case. Because these physical versions arrive in stores on November 12, users who purchase the game digitally through the PlayStation or Xbox storefronts will get at least a two-day head start on pre-loading the game.

Free Maps and Posters

Finally, Rockstar announced some bonus goodies for fans. The company will release an official printable GTA 6 cover art poster and a map of Leonida as a free digital download on November 19 through the official GTA 6 website.

Additionally, a double-sided physical poster will be available to buy on the Rockstar Store for just under a dollar, and it will be thrown in as a free gift with any store purchase. It remains unclear whether the standard retail box will include a classic fold-out poster, which has been a long-standing tradition for previous Rockstar titles. With the launch just over two weeks away, pre-orders are currently live across both console storefronts.
