The queen is back and how. Another year, another Cannes red carpet appearance, and let’s be honest, we have all been waiting for this moment this year. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s latest Cannes look leans fully into Amit Aggarwal’s signature sculptural language — futuristic, dramatic and sharply constructed.

For this year’s appearance, Aggarwal designed Luminara, a couture creation centred around the idea of light in motion. The piece explores light not merely as illumination, but as energy, movement and force — translated through sculptural construction and engineered craftsmanship.

The actor wore a deep sapphire-blue gown that hugged the body before flaring into a structured mermaid silhouette. What stood out immediately was the intricate linear detailing running across the dress, creating an almost optical illusion effect. The embellishment mimicked fluid movement, making the gown appear almost liquid-like under the flashes.

At the core of the garment is Aggarwal’s signature Crystal Vein embroidery technique, developed over more than 1,500 hours of handwork. The silhouette also drew heavily from biomimicry, a recurring inspiration in Aggarwal’s work.

What balanced the sharpness of the construction was the sheer flowing drape carried along the arms, which softened the look and introduced movement and theatricality without overwhelming the silhouette.

There is also a noticeable shift in styling here. Unlike some of her previous Cannes outings that leaned heavily into maximalism, this look felt far more controlled. The hair stayed soft and side-swept, the makeup remained understated, and the focus stayed firmly on the architecture of the gown.

The jewellery followed the same mood. She wore a sculptural diamond-and-sapphire collar necklace that echoed the futuristic lines of the outfit instead of competing with it.

Speaking about the collaboration, Amit Aggarwal said, “Aishwarya has always approached Cannes with a strong sense of individuality and evolution. With Luminara, Mohit Rai (stylist) and I wanted to create something that felt less like a garment and more like an energy field around her.”

This also marks Aishwarya’s 24th year at Cannes. She first appeared at the festival in 2002 for the premiere of Devdas — and more than two decades later, she still knows exactly how to own a red carpet moment.
