  • Makers plan to announce the release date only after clearance arrives
  • Earlier reports claimed the film received an A certificate with cuts

Contrary to reports that Vijay's Jana Nayagan has already received an A certificate, sources close to the film told India Today that it is yet to be cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification.

A source close to the film said the team was still waiting for the clearance and expected it by next week. 'We are still awaiting the clearance, which is expected to come by next week. As of now all the buzz around it getting A certificate is nothing but speculations. We are hopeful to get it soon, and post which we will announce the release date,' the source said.

Earlier, NDTV had reported that Jana Nayagan had been granted an A certificate, subject to certain cuts, by the CBFC on Wednesday, citing sources. The report also said the edit list was expected to be uploaded on the CBFC website either today or on Monday, while the final certificate was likely to be issued next week.

According to the same report, the production is considering July 24 or July 31 as the film's release date.

Back in May, it was reported that the Revising Committee of the CBFC had cleared the film, paving the way for its release. For now, sources close to the film maintain that the certification is still awaited and that the release date will be announced only after the clearance comes through.
