Actor Ameesha Patel has appeared to come out in support of Alia Bhatt after she was trolled online over claims that she was ‘ignored’ by paparazzi during her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. Ameesha used a social media post to criticise what she described as the culture of pulling down Indian celebrities, particularly during international appearances.

Without naming Alia directly, the Gadar actor wrote about what she called a lack of unity among Indians and expressed disappointment over the way actors are targeted online. Her remarks came after Alia faced social media comments linked to her Cannes outing, with many users later speculating that Ameesha’s post was aimed at defending her.

In her post, Ameesha wrote, “Recent activities have clearly made it evident that our own INDIAN mentality has become to pull others down .. we call ourselves as ONE nation and united- but are we actually? (sic).” She followed it up by criticising the nature of celebrity trolling in India, especially around appearance and attire at major events.

Expressing disappointment over the trolling culture, she wrote, “Actors here in INDIA are more badly trolled by our own people than Hollywood stars are within their country from their own people, which is so sad! Whether it’s an Indian star’s appearance or attire at big events, they sadly become targets of their own people! Such a shame (sic)!”

Alia Bhatt reacts to troll

Soon after the post surfaced online, several social media users speculated that Ameesha’s comments were directed at the response to Alia Bhatt’s Cannes appearance. Earlier, Alia had reacted to a troll who commented on her look from the festival.

The 2 States actor had shared a reel on Instagram featuring her custom ivory silk saree-gown look from Cannes. In the comments section, a social media user wrote, “What a pity, no one noticed you (sic),” along with a laughing emoji. Alia replied, “Why pity love? You noticed me :) (sic).”

On the work front, Alia is preparing for the release of her upcoming spy-action thriller Alpha. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film is the seventh chapter in the YRF Spy Universe after Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3 and War 2. The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Sharvari in key roles. She also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War lined up.
