Mumbai: Salman Khan’s Eid release, Sikandar, has not impressed the audience and critics. Although it had a good opening, the box office collections of the film suffered a huge setback after Eid. Sikandar collected Rs. 26 crore on its opening day, Rs. 29 crore on its second day, and approximately Rs. 19.5 crore on its third day, making a total of Rs. 74.5 crore up to its first Tuesday.

The poor performance of the film is also evident in its occupancy numbers. On the third day, Sikandar’s Hindi releases had a collective occupancy of 19.42%, with morning shows being at 6.87%, afternoon shows at 18.91%, and evening and night shows at 25.99% and 25.89%, respectively. To add to that, numerous theaters all over India have begun to cut down Sikandar’s shows, substituting them with more successful films.

In some cinema chains in Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Indore, Sikandar shows were cancelled because of poor audience turnout. Instead, theaters decided to show Gujarati movies such as All The Best Pandya and Umbarro, and Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan. For example, Inox Raghuleela in Mumbai’s Kandivali substituted Sikandar’s 5:30 pm show with Umbarro, while Cinepolis Seawoods and PVR Orion Mall exchanged Sikandar’s shows with L2 Empuraan.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sikandar follows a man who brings down an unforgiving regime following a heartbreak. Starring the strong cast of Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Prateik Smita Patil, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sharman Joshi, Sikandar enjoys a big-time cast that helps it sound highly promising at a glance. Failing in achieving its desired potential at the box office has attracted criticism against it for failing to stay put long enough at theatres.
