Puri: Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosa chariot halted shortly after rolling following a prolonged delay during the Rath Yatra celebration in Puri today. This is the first time that the pulling of Nandighosa chariot commenced at 7:45 PM.

Sources said that there was inordinate delay in initiating the pulling of the Lord’s chariot as hundreds of devotees entered the cordon meant for the free rolling of the deities’ chariots.

Though the chariots were never pulled after 7:45 PM, the servitors along with devotees managed to pull the Nandighosa chariot to a short distance as per the tradition and halted it after informing Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi about inconveniences, said sources.

While  the Taladhwaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra halted near the Market Chhak, Devi Subhadra’s Darpadalan chariot stopped near the Marchikote Chhak.

The pulling of chariots will resume at 9.30 AM tomorrow, informed Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Arabinda Kumar Padhee.
