Film maker Ram Gopal Varma sentenced to three months non-bailable arrest for cheque bounce case

Film maker Ram Gopal Varma who is currently bashing in the re-release glory of his cult film Satya is troubled in legal matters. He has been sentenced to three months jail by the Mumbai Magistrate Court.

In 2018, ‘Shree’ film lodged a complaint against the film maker for a cheque bounce case. In the last few years his movies have tanked in the box office and he has been surrounded in financial trap. In 2022, Ram Gopal Varma was released on bail by depositing a cash security of Rs 5,000.

The Mumbai Magistrate Court has once again sentenced him to a unbailable detention of 3 months in the same case. For the hearing of the case, he was summoned on January 21 in which he did not appear. Following the incident, he was sentenced to three months unbailable arrest.

He was sentenced under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act. The court has directed him to pay Rs 3.72 lakh to the complainant as a compensatory amount.
