Odisha CM Mohan Majhi, LoP Naveen Patnaik and others express grief over demise of Abhijit Majumdar

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi along with other dignitaries, filmmakers, artists and fans has expressed grief over the demise of renowned music director and vocalist Abhijit Majumdar.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief over the passing of Abhijit and called it an “irreparable loss” to the music, cinema, and culture of the state. The Chief Minister noted that Majumdar’s passing has left a void in the Odia film and music fraternity.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of music director Abhijit Majumdar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music, cinema, and culture. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Lord Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul,” Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi wrote in an X post .

Meanwhile, BJD supremo and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condoled the demise of the music composer and wrote, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of renowned music director and lyricist Abhijit Majumdar. His contributions to the Odia music world will always remain memorable. In this hour of grief, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, along with prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul.”

The veteran music director Abhijit Majumdar passed away at the age of 54 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on January 25, 2026. He was a prominent figure in the industry, having composed music for over 700 Odia and Sambalpuri songs.

His demise was mourned across the state by various artists, filmmakers, and fans.
