Nintendo's "Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream" looks wonderfully strange

Vice City? Never heard of her. There's only one tropical paradise I'm interested in visiting next year: the island that takes center stage in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the unlikely continuation of Nintendo's quirky little life-sim series.

As I noted when the game was first revealed, its 2013 predecessor — just Tomodachi Life — is one of my favorite Nintendo games ever. This is in large part due to the constant surprises it throws your way, infusing each of your little islanders with a healthy dose of autonomy and keeping it from feeling like nothing more than a sterile terrarium (like some life sims I could mention). In a recent gameplay deep dive that doubles as a backdoor pilot for a soap opera, Nintendo has turned up the strangeness to 11, making this game everything I ever could have dreamed of. Lies! Betrayal! Polyamory?!

Hugh Morris is the icon I never knew I needed. Let me at this game already!
