Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer brings back cavalcade of fan-favorite characters
by Grant St. Clair · Boing BoingNine years.
It's been nine years since genuine S-tier actor Michael Mando was teased in the role of delightfully unhinged baddie Scorpion at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. I have only gotten more fed up with the MCU with every movie since then that hasn't brought him back, eventually just writing him off to the long list of teases in these movies that just haven't gone anywhere.
Imagine my surprise when I saw a certain beautiful, glowering face in the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
No, I don't care that "Peter struggles with his powers" was already the central pitch of Spider-Man 2 and about a million comic stories. No, I don't care that this trailer all but confirms a ridiculous-sounding plotline leak involving spider-puberty to be true. I don't even care that the movie looks so packed with villains that Mando will probably have all of about thirty seconds to flex his acting chops: he's in it, and I can stop seething about how the MCU fumbled his talent now.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters July 21.
