PM to launch year-long ‘Vande Mataram’ celebration today

New Delhi, Nov 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the year-long commemoration of India’s national song “Vande Mataram” on November 7, 2025, at around 9:30 am at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

According to an official release, the Prime Minister will also unveil a commemorative postage stamp and coin marking 150 years of the iconic composition.

The nationwide celebrations will run from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026, honouring a song that inspired India’s freedom movement and continues to symbolise national pride and unity. As part of the launch, citizens across the country will join in a mass singing of the full version of “Vande Mataram” at around 9:50 a.m., in coordination with the main event in Delhi. Written by Bankimchandra Chatterji on Akshaya Navami, November 7, 1875, the song first appeared in Bangadarshan magazine as part of his novel Anandamath. Celebrating the Motherland as a source of strength, prosperity and divinity, “Vande Mataram” became a powerful symbol of India’s unity and the spirit of the independence movement.
