Xbox Game Pass subscriptions could soon cost more Microsoft Rewards points

It seems that Microsoft will be increasing the number of Microsoft Rewards points required for redeeming Xbox Game Pass subscriptions this year.

If you use Microsoft Rewards points to pay for your Game Pass subscription, then we have some bad news for you. Later this year, it appears that Microsoft will increase the amount of Microsoft Rewards points needed for Xbox Game Pass subscriptions purchased with Rewards points.

Game Pass subscriptions to cost more Microsoft Rewards points from April

• Microsoft is discontinuing older and cheaper auto-redeem subscription options for Game Pass due to a price increase
• A new auto-redeem option that sees one month of Game Pass Ultimate cost 17,000 Rewards points is now available in the UK
• One month of Game Pass Ultimate currently costs 12,000 Rewards points per month in the UK

According to a post on Reddit, Microsoft has sent an email to Microsoft Rewards users explaining that "changes are coming" to Microsoft Rewards auto-redeem subscriptions of Game Pass.

"We wanted to let you know that we will be discontinuing Microsoft Rewards auto-redeem subscriptions for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Core, and PC Game Pass on April 20, 2025," reads the email.

"This change is due to a recent increase in Microsoft Rewards points needed for Xbox Game Pass subscriptions purchased with Rewards points. You can still use auto-redeem subscriptions for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Core, and PC Game Pass, but you will need to renew your subscription by selecting a new Rewards auto-redeem option after April 20, 2025."

While Microsoft hasn't said how much it is increasing the price of these subscriptions, new redemption options and prices have gone live on the Microsoft Rewards redemption page. In the UK (we're not sure of prices in other regions), one month of Game Pass Ultimate for a level 2 member currently costs 12,000 Rewards points, but this will be going up to 17,000 points. PC Game Pass is going up from 7,750 to 10,500.

That is a hefty price increase that will make it much harder to essentially get Game Pass Ultimate for free, in the UK at least. We're not sure if this increase applies to all regions.
