Microsoft's Copilot for Gaming will be an AI "gaming sidekick," according to the Xbox team, and will be available for Xbox Insiders to try out soon. A new look at the feature showed proof of concept examples of Copilot helping in games like Age of Empires 4: Anniversary Edition, so perhaps it'll be able to help players while they're working through the Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition achievements.
Xbox team details Copilot for Gaming
- The Xbox Podcast brought a new look at Copilot for Gaming
- This AI-driven feature is intended as a "gaming companion"
- It will be available for trial by Xbox Insiders soon
The latest episode of the Official Xbox Podcast brought a wave of Xbox news, at the forefront of which was a new look at the Copilot for Gaming feature. Xbox Corporate Vice President of Gaming AI Fatima Kardar and Vice President of Next Generation Jason Ronald talked through the feature, which, according to Xbox, is meant to be the "ultimate gaming sidekick."
As shown in the proof of concept examples below, Copilot for Gaming is apparently meant as an aid for players, who can consult it when stuck, ask "how to" questions, and get it to install games while also supplying a recap of what players had last done in that game.
"This AI-driven sidekick is designed to be your personalized gaming companion, helping you get to your favorite games faster, coaching you to improve your skills, and connecting you better with your friends and communities. Copilot for Gaming will be there when you need it but out of the way if you don’t," the Xbox team says.
"Copilot for Gaming is built on three principles: capability, adaptability, and personalization. It is designed to assist players in various ways, from personalized game recommendations and seamless game setup, to helpful coaching and maintaining connections with friends," and is intended to "make gaming with Xbox more seamless and personalized."
There's no word yet on when Copilot will begin rolling out in full, but Xbox Insiders will soon be able to trial it on mobile before it arrives on other devices.
The Xbox team also announced that over 1,000 titles now support Xbox Play Anywhere, with "many more on the way." Ronald added that the data shows that games which are Xbox Play Anywhere enabled "get 20% more gameplay" due to the flexibility of playing on the go.
