A new Resident Evil 6 Xbox Series X|S rating has been given by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board), suggesting that a third re-release could be on the way. We've had the chance to collect the Resident Evil 6 achievements on Xbox One and Xbox 360, and we might soon be able to run through a third stack if the Xbox horror game does launch for Xbox Series X|S too.
Resident Evil 6 rated for Xbox Series X|S by the ESRB
- The ESRB has rated Resident Evil 6 for Xbox Series X|S
- Resident Evil 6 first released on Xbox 360 on October 2, 2012
- It was re-released on Xbox One on March 29, 2016, and bundled in all DLC
The ESRB has given Resident Evil 6 a Mature rating for Xbox Series X|S due to its use of blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, strong language, and suggestive themes. It's the same rating given to the game's 2012 Xbox 360 launch and 2016 re-release.
Capcom is yet to announce that Resident Evil 6 is heading to Xbox Series X|S, so we don't yet have a release date to look forward to, but this is exciting nonetheless, especially as many players hope to see a Resident Evil 9 reveal this year.
For the uninitiated, Resident Evil 6 is a third-person action-horror and survival-horror game following the stories of four different characters as they battle through the aftermath of a viral outbreak in several locations, from Eastern Europe to China. With returning fan-favorite characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Ada Wong joined by newbie Jake Muller, Resident Evil 6 has some familiar faces, but it takes the gameplay in a very different direction compared to previous entries.
It can be played solo or via co-op, but unlike the contemporary mission structure seen in earlier Resi games, 6 features four short stories to play through with an overarching storyline linking them all.
Resident Evil 6 first launched on Xbox 360 in 2012 and was followed up by four DLC packs: Onslaught Game Mode, Survivors Game Mode, Predator Game Mode, and Siege Mode. Capcom then re-released it on Xbox One in 2016, bundling all of the DLC into one package. We'd expect the potentially upcoming Xbox Series X|S version to include all of the DLC as standard too.
We already know that Capcom is hard at work on the next Resident Evil game, so a re-release of Resident Evil 6 would be welcome while we wait for the next big thing. However, it is strange to see a rating for Resident Evil 6 over Resident Evil 5, especially as the developer has produced remakes of games in the series sequentially, so far.
This week, Microsoft is hosting an Xbox Developer Direct, which will reportedly feature a reveal of a new game from a "legendary Japanese IP." This past weekend, we asked you to let us know the Japanese IP you to see at the Xbox Developer Direct, and while Final Fantasy took the top spot with 18.35% of the votes, Resident Evil came in second place with 14.31%.
