‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ New Trailer: Let Radio Silence Explain the Rules of a New Game
This time, Samara Weaving faces off with (deep breath) Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Nestor Carbonell, and even David Cronenberg.
by Kate Erbland · IndieWireCall it the product of some awards season burnout and the residual impact of an exhausting Sundance, but we’re starting to get pretty excited about the possibilities of a good, old-fashioned horror movie. With fun! And sisters! And David Cronenberg in an acting role!
Following their 2019 hit, directing duo Radio Silence (aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) and their Final Girl for the ages, Samara Weaving, are back for “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.” Familiarity with the original film is a must for this one, as it picks up immediately after the events of “Ready or Not,” in which blushing bride Grace (Weaving) was shocked to discover she had married into a murderous family that loved nothing more than playing deadly games around their sprawling mansion. Poor Grace, she had no idea what the hell she got into when she picked “Hide and Seek” on her wedding night.
But, crucially, Grace did get out of all that (too bad it involved the death of her husband and all her in-laws), and so you can imagine she felt pretty good when it was all over. Alas, with the advent of a sequel, it’s clear none of this is actually over.
Here’s the official synopsis courtesy of Searchlight Pictures: “Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.”
In the film’s latest trailer, we get a better sense of the rules of the game and what the prize is: nothing less than world domination. Neat! Along the way, Grace and Faith will go up against a group of “High Council” families that make the Le Domas clan look like amateurs, including turns from Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Nestor Carbonell, and Cronenberg himself.
Come for Gellar and Hatosy giddily driving their golf cart to clearly nefarious activities, stay for Carbonell really fucking up that whole “loading a gun” thing.
Check out the new trailer for the film below, which Searchlight Pictures will release in theaters on Friday, March 20.
