‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Full Trailer: Yes, Pedro Pascal Will Show His Face in This One
Our longest look yet at the Jon Favreau-directed big screen adventure leans into visible star power, from our titular Mandalorian to a pack of snuggly lil guys (read: baby Greedo?).
by Kate Erbland · IndieWireHey, Pedro Pascal! There you are! We so rarely get to see the superstar in “The Mandalorian,” it’s certainly nice to see his actual face in our first full look at its upcoming film sequel, “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” (Yes, don’t worry, “Baby Yoda” is there, too.)
The new film sees Pascal reprise his eponymous role from the Disney+ series, with his adorable sidekick and charming ward Grogu, AKA “Baby Yoda,” now receiving top billing, too. Other cast members include Sigourney Weaver, Jonny Coyne, and Jeremy Allen White. (And, for keen-eared film freaks, is that Martin Scorsese we hear as a rattled merchant early in this new look?)
Here’s the logline: “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”
The trailer follows a relatively short (and oddly Budweiser commercial-coded) teaser from Super Bowl Sunday, and leans way into the star power of not just Pascal and his tiny little pal (real question: when is Grogu hitting a growth spurt?), but other friendly faces, from a tiny “Baby Greedo” to a cadre of brave Anzellans. In short: cute!
“The Mandalorian and Grogu” is directed by Jon Favreau. It’s his first film behind the camera since 2019’s remake of “The Lion King,” though Favreau has spent much of those seven years working on various “Star Wars” TV projects. He created both “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett,” served as an executive producer on “Ahsoka” and “Skeleton Crew,” as well as co-wrote the new film with Filoni, who also serves as an executive producer.
The film will be the first “Star Wars” joint to arrive in theaters after the recent departure of longtime Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and the first new film in the franchise to be released since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” The studio is also currently at work on “Starfighter” starring Ryan Gosling, which will open in 2027. Several other prospective films however with a revolving door of talent have started and stopped over recent years.
Disney will release “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in theaters on Friday, May 22. Check out the film’s first full trailer below.
