The Final Trailer for ‘Wildwood’ Provides Deepest Look Yet at an Epic Adventure
Laika's sixth stop-motion feature will be available in 4DX, DBOX, and Dolby Cinema.
by Kate Erbland · IndieWireWhen Laika‘s much-anticipated sixth stop-motion feature “Wildwood” opens in theaters next month, it promises to deliver the lauded animation house’s biggest adventure yet. And, with today’s look at the film‘s final trailer, we’re getting a deeper (and darker) look at just what that journey will hold.
Per the film’s official logline: “After her baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows, headstrong teenager Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) launches a desperate rescue mission into the Impassable Wilderness — an enchanted forest hidden just beyond Portland, Oregon. Joined by her hapless but loyal classmate Curtis Mehlberg (Jacob Tremblay), Prue navigates a world of talking animals, bandits, and powerful figures driven by grief and ambition. As the pair is drawn into a conflict threatening the balance of the forest itself, Prue must find a way to save her brother while confronting forces that could determine Wildwood’s future.”
The film is inspired by the acclaimed novel by Colin Meloy, illustrated by Carson Ellis, and directed and produced by Travis Knight (“Masters of the Universe,” “Kubo and the Two Strings”), with writing by Chris Butler (“Masters of the Universe,” “ParaNorman”).
The film’s large ensemble voice cast includes Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits, Richard E. Grant, Len Cariou, Marc Evan Jackson, and Rob Delaney. Caleb Deschanel serves as the film’s cinematographer, while Dario Marianelli composed the score.
The American Film Institute recently announced that the film will make its U.S. Premiere as the Opening Night selection of the 40th AFI FEST on October 21. Fathom Entertainment is distributing the film theatrically in the United States.
“Wildwood” will hit theaters across the United States on October 23. Laika also announced today that the film will be presented in select premium formats and experiences, including 4DX, DBOX, and Dolby Cinema, where available. You can buy tickets right here.
