Nicole Kidman just might be returning to the land of “Stepford Wives” for her latest feature, “Holland.”

The thriller, which is “Fresh” director Mimi Cave‘s sophomore feature, stars Kidman as a teacher who uncovers a town secret along with her colleague after she suspects her husband of leading a double life. Could this shatter her perfect suburban world?

“Succession” Emmy winner Matthew Macfadyen and Jude Hill play Kidman’s onscreen family. “Holland” will premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival.

Errol Morris was originally announced as the director for the film in 2013; the film, which was originally titled “Holland, Michigan,” has been in the works for more than a decade, with Cave and Kidman both joining in 2022. Cave’s directorial debut was the 2022 cannibal horror film “Fresh” starring Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Andrew Sodroski’s script for the black comedy “Holland” first appeared on The Black List in 2013.

The official synopsis for “Holland” reads: “In this wildly unpredictable thriller, Nicole Kidman is the meticulous Nancy Vandergroot, a teacher and homemaker whose picture-perfect life with her community pillar husband (Macfadyen) and son (Hill) in tulip-filled Holland, Michigan tumbles into a twisted tale. Nancy and her friendly colleague (Bernal) become suspicious of a secret, only to discover nothing in their lives is what it seems.”

“Holland” is produced by Kidman, Per Saari, Kate Churchill, and Peter Dealbert.

Kidman recently told Time that the only way to achieve gender parity in Hollywood is by working with female directors. The actress/producer vowed in 2017 to work with a female director every 18 months; she has since exceeded that. Kidman has worked with 19 women directors across various TV and film projects in the last eight years.

“It can be changed,” Kidman said, citing in part the UCLA’s 2024 Hollywood Diversity Report that said only 14.7 percent of 2023 films released theatrically were made by women. “But it can only be changed by actually being in the films of women.”

“Babygirl” star Kidman will next appear in the Apple TV+ series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” with Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman, plus return for “Nine Perfect Strangers” Season 2. According to the mega-producer, a third season of “Big Little Lies” is also in the works.

“Holland” premieres March 27 on Prime Video. Check out the trailer below.
