Better Roles In Older Age – Nani’s POV Is Surprising!
by Article by Kumar · Gulte.comStereotypes and clichés are a part and parcel of the film industry. When an actor clicks, most of their subsequent films follow a similar template. And when a particular formula works, many more clichéd narratives based on the same formula follow.
In the middle of all this and many more insecurities, an actor’s life takes shape. But the question is, to what extent are they satisfied with their body of work? In this context, we often hear that our senior heroes must stop playing younger roles and start playing their age on the screen. In a similar discussion, Nani shared a brilliant point of view, which is going viral on social media.
During our interaction with Nani, for the HIT 3 promotions, we asked how Nani is convinced to play a middle 40s person in HIT 3. The actor was 41, but he played someone older than himself, which is usually not the case.
Nani or the heroes of his age usually settle down to playing a guy in his late 20s or 30s. That’s been the trend, and our senior heroes also followed the same process. But, when we asked about how he got to terms with this age insecurity and playing a role that does not usually fall under the typical age group, he said that he is excited to turn 60.
Nani thinks that the more he plays roles of late 20s and mid-30s, the kind of films that come to him will also be similar. Most of them approach him with the roles of the same age group, and there will be a template that the film follows.
“For a change in HIT 3, he is 45. There is something different in this than what we do in other films. In such a way, I can’t wait to turn 60 because I think I will do better roles when I get older,” said Nani.
Nani revealed that he can’t wait to play Sarkar, referring to Amitabh’s Sarkar as and when he turns 60. In fact, it is a realistic point of view.
Over the decades, we still imagine our senior heroes in a typical commercial setup film. But on the flip side, actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal are excelling in both commercial cinema and films where they play their age.
And most of the films where they play their age or come out of typical commercial films are bringing more attention as well as success. If Chiranjeevi or Balakrishna does what Amitabh is doing in Bollywood now, more stories will come on the screen. Nani was potentially referring to a similar situation, where he get to play much better roles and satisfy the actor in him.
