Oasis fans give unanimous one-word verdict on Heaton Park concert after 16-year wait
by Ariane Sohrabi-Shiraz · NottinghamshireLiveOasis delighted supporters with a spectacular homecoming gig at Manchester's Heaton Park on Friday, July 11. The Gallagher siblings attracted an enormous audience of approximately 80,000 people for the opening night of five concerts during their highly-awaited comeback tour.
Liam and Noel Gallagher made a striking arrival, walking together hand-in-hand, greeted by deafening cheers from the crowd, with Liam sporting his signature parka jacket despite the scorching 30-degree temperatures. The hometown heroes entertained the masses with a succession of Oasis classics, spanning from Hello to Champagne Supernova, ending with a magnificent fireworks show as supporters made their way home.
Although there were accounts of extensive queues lasting up to 90 minutes for departure, the general feeling was that the eagerly-awaited 16-year break had been worthwhile. Fans, both veteran and newcomers alike, consistently employed one powerful word to describe the evening at Heaton Park: 'biblical'.
One supporter posted overhead video of the concert-goers on X, writing: "Biblical. Biblical. Biblical. Thank you Oasis. Thank you Manchester."
Additional fans shared similar feelings, with remarks including: "Oasis. First night back in Manchester. F****ng biblical," and: "What a night. What a band! Biblical."
Another devotee conveyed their joy, stating: "16 years in the waiting and it was just as expected, F****N BIBLICAL! Best band in the world". The word 'biblical' has become synonymous with Oasis over the years, especially through Liam's frequent usage.
When reminiscing about the legendary Knebworth performance in 1996, which attracted approximately 250,000 devotees across two evenings, Liam memorably branded the occasion as 'biblical' owing to its enormous attendance.
During a documentary focusing on the legendary Knebworth shows, Liam Gallagher's commentary is recorded as he reminisces: "People always ask me what Knebworth was like, I always say, and I can't really remember much about it. But watching this film brought it all back, for me it was the Woodstock of the Nineties, you know, the music and the people coming together. It was biblical and I'll never forget it."
These extraordinary performances took place 10 months following Oasis's release of their sophomore record (What's The Story) Morning Glory, during their peak. Merely two years after their inaugural album Definitely Maybe, the Gallagher siblings had achieved worldwide fame.
Since then, Liam has consistently characterised his musical endeavours as 'biblical', a phrase that has become intrinsically linked with Oasis.
During 2021, Liam declared a triumphant return to Knebworth, the venue where Oasis created history, proclaiming: "I'm absolutely buzzing to announce that on 4 June 2022 I'll be playing Knebworth Park. It's gonna be biblical. C'mon You Know. LG x".
Through the official Liam Gallagher YouTube channel, footage from the performances has been uploaded, accompanied by Some Might Say, with Liam adding the caption: "BIBLICAL."
This phrase has also been adopted by his followers.
