Masked Singer star 'storms off' stage in 'chaotic' scenes after shock elimination

by · NottinghamshireLive

The Masked Singer was reportedly "thrown into chaos" when a celebrity "stormed off" the stage after being voted out of the competition. The ITV show, which returned for its new series last weekend, saw a host of masked celebrities perform in the launch episodes.

However, the next unmasking is said to have occurred after the contestant walked off stage, evidently disappointed over their departure. The "dramatic scenes" are set to be broadcast on Saturday night's episode, featuring performances from Pufferfish, Bear, Toad in the Hole, Wolf and Bush.

Described as a "world-renowned star", the identity of the contestant remains a mystery. A source told the Sun about the unexpected turn of events: "It was absolutely bonkers," noting that typically, the celebrity with the fewest votes removes their mask shortly after the result is announced.

They usually then chat with the panel and perform once more, this time without their disguise. "But instead this character turned around and shuffled off stage, which was hilarious in their costume obviously - but we all stunned. We knew something was going on because we saw lots of to-ing and fro-ing with crew before the person eventually came back on stage."

The source mentioned that this added "even more" intrigue to the audience's anticipation of discovering who was behind the mask, reports the Mirror.

The outlet reports that one insider detailed how the behind-the-scenes team encouraged a celebrity to see the competition through to its end, while host Joel Dommett kept the audience entertained. The source revealed that the contestant was "basically gutted" at having to exit the contest "so soon" into the new series.

The sixth instalment of the Masked Singer debuted last Saturday with six contestants gracing the stage. The remaining six participants showcased their talents in the next day's episode, during which two celebrities were revealed.

Kate Garraway of Good Morning Britain was unmasked as Spag Bol after her performance of Geri Halliwell’s Look at Me. Later, Pegasus was revealed to be Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, who serenaded the audience with Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' from the musical Oklahoma!

With a fresh batch of disguised celebs to guess, this year's panel also welcomes a new face: Love Island's Maya Jama, taking over from Rita Ora who has been with the show since its inception in 2020. .

Maya joins veteran panelists Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross for the current series. Celebrity guests have included former Olympic athlete Mo Farah and actress Vicky McClure for the first two episodes, with actor Suranne Jones set to join as a guest panelist on Saturday's instalment.
