Gogglebox fans 'switch off' Channel 4 show after disturbing scene

The beloved Gogglebox TV critics have returned for more television chat, but neither the families on the show nor the viewers at home were ready for what was shown on their screens on Friday's episode (February 21). The line-up included Gladiators, The Apprentice, Celebrity Bear Hunt and The Fear Clinic: Face Your Phobia, all watched by our favourite Gogglebox stars.

However, it was a scene from the new season of The White Lotus, which premiered on Sky on Monday, that elicited the most significant response.

The White Lotus has become known for its risqué scenes and shocking moments in its first two seasons, set in Hawaii and Sicily, and the new season is continuing this trend. The third season of the mystery drama kicked off with a fresh cast of characters arriving at a new White Lotus resort, this time in stunning Thailand.

Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins portray age gap couple Chelsea and Rick, while Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon and Michelle Monaghan play three long-time friends on a girls' trip. Season one fan favourite Natasha Rothwell, who plays Belinda, also makes an appearance.

However, it's the family led by Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey, playing Timothy and Victoria, that has sparked the most discussion due to the unfolding storyline involving their adult children, portrayed by Sarah Catherine Hook, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola, reports the Mirror.

A controversial scene from the first episode featuring brothers Saxon and Lochlan sharing a hotel room has sparked quite the conversation online, and it's now been witnessed by the Gogglebox families on their sofas. In the scene, Saxon (played by Schwarzenegger) inquires about his younger brother's internet preferences before heading to the bathroom for some private time, stark naked, with his reflection visible in the mirror.

Although Gogglebox viewers were spared the full frontal image, the families saw everything, leading to shocked reactions from Ellie and Izzy, Jenny and Lee, and the Michael family, all exclaiming "Oh!"

Giles, watching alongside his wife Mary, remarked "So far, so pervy, Mary," as they both looked on in surprise. Meanwhile, Jake assured his twin Harry, "I have never done this by the way!" referencing Saxon's reason for retreating to the bathroom.

Pete shared some hotel wisdom with his sister Sophie, saying, "Something happens to people when they stop in hotels," and confessed to using shortbread biscuits as earplugs to block out noises from neighbouring rooms. This prompted one viewer to comment on X, previously known as Twitter: "Now we know what to do with the complimentary shortbread biscuits in hotels, thanks Pete and Sophie."

One Gogglebox fan commented with humour: "Gogglebox so far so pervy lol he's right there," while another agreed with the sentiment. A third viewer expressed a different reaction: "#Gogglebox has just made me put a line through watching The White Lotus. Too weird and disturbing. No thanks!" The featured clip also led one fan to contemplate switching off Gogglebox itself, remarking: "Why does #Gogglebox always end with the weird stuff. Turned off for the last five minutes. White lotus is a no-go for me, sorry."
