Vue announces takeover of closing Cineworld in Nottingham city centre

The national cinema chain Vue has confirmed it will soon be coming to The Cornerhouse in Nottingham to take over the Cineworld site that will soon close. Cineworld confirmed on Monday (January 13) that it was leaving The Cornerhouse on February 2 as part of a nationwide restructuring and following a dispute with its landlord.

Concern soon followed, given that Cineworld occupies the entirety of the top floor at The Cornerhouse and the vast majority of the first floor. Relief soon came when Box Property, the Nottingham-based letting agent for The Cornerhouse, confirmed an agreement had already been reached with a new national operator.

Vue has now confirmed that it will be taking over from Cineworld. A Vue spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we will be coming to The Cornerhouse, Nottingham. We're very much looking forward to bringing guests the ultimate big screen experience later this year and will share more information in due course."

Box Property previously confirmed the cinema will be closing for a period after Cineworld's departure, with director Frankie Labbate saying: "The cinema will close temporarily to undergo a substantial refurbishment that will deliver a state-of-the-art cinema for Nottingham city centre."

The only other Vue cinemas in the East Midlands are located in Leicester and Northampton, with other locations including Doncaster and Sheffield. Other sites that Nottingham's cinemagoers have to choose from include Showcase, Broadway and The Savoy.
