The long-awaited and much-anticipated first Oasis concert at Heaton Park in Manchester has officially kicked off, with Britpop icons Cast being the first to take to the massive stage on Friday evening, July 11. It was the first of five homecoming gigs for Oasis.

Their Live '25 reunion tour began in Cardiff last weekend, featuring support acts Cast and Richard Ashcroft to get the crowd going. Fans have been speculating whether the set list for the Manchester shows would differ from the opening two nights in Cardiff. Cast have certainly mixed things up.

The band, renowned for hits such as Walkaway and Guiding Star, debuted a brand new song, set to feature on their recently announced upcoming album Yeah Yeah Yeah. Revealed this week, the band, led by John Power, will launch the new album through Manchester-based independent record label Scruff of the Neck Records in January 2026.

It features the new single Poison Vine, which had its global premiere on Vernon Kay's Radio 2 show. Performing the track for the first time, the band welcomed legendary singer P. P. Arnold to the stage for the number. Described as a 'soul legend' by frontman John, she has released music with the likes of Rod Stewart, Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller over the years.

The 78-year-old performer, originally from California, first rose to fame in 1965 as a member of the renowned Ikette's with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. She parted ways with the Revue in 1969 after touring with the Rolling Stones, attributing her successful career launch to her friendships with both Tina Turner and Mick Jagger.

Discussing their forthcoming album, Cast characterised it as embodying 'the liberated spirit and unrestrained creativity it was captured in'. The record is expected to showcase the diverse range of Cast's sound, from gospel-inspired anthems adorned with strings to their classic melancholic tunes, interspersed with moments of intense energy, psychedelic funk and tranquil, acoustic serenity.
