Outnumbered star hints at BBC show future ahead of Christmas special

Outnumbered's Ramona Marquez has hinted at a possible full series revival for the BBC sitcom. Fans of the popular series were thrilled earlier this year with the announcement that the show was returning for a second Christmas special.

The comedic portrayal of the Brockman family's domestic trials will see Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner back as parents Pete and Sue, alongside Ramona, Daniel Roche and Tyger Drew Honey as their children Karen, Ben, and Jake.

Running for five successful seasons from 2007 until 2014, plus a previous Yuletide episode in 2016, Outnumbered amused audiences with its relatable take on familial disarray.

However, the upcoming 2024 Christmas special, to be broadcast on Boxing Day (December 26), reflects an evolved dynamic, with the now-adult Brockman children returning to the family's more cramped abode.

The sneak peek reveals a hectic yuletide as Pete and Sue contend with the continuous challenges of parenting their grown-up kids and a new grandchild during a festive gathering. Despite downsizing their home, it appears some less-than-cheerful news might be difficult to convey this holiday season.

This particular gathering is the first time viewers will have seen the ensemble together since their last appearance eight years prior. Addressing the buzz surrounding their on-screen reunion whilst on the red carpet at the National Television Awards this year, Romana let slip that nostalgia could certainly fuel further adventures, stating: "I think people are hungry for that nostalgia.", reports the Liverpool Echo.

"When I heard about it I was so excited and I just hoped everyone else had the same reaction. I think Karen will be working her magic behind the scenes. She'll be sorting stuff out and I'd like to see more of that from her."

She tantalisingly hinted at the potential for a full series return: "If people want it then definitely. I think the show's centred around kids but there's been shows which I really love when the kids do grow up and I love seeing them as adults as well so it depends if people want that but we'd love it."

Hugh shared his excitement about the upcoming Christmas special, stating: "I can't wait for the Brockmans to be back together again. Pete and Sue have downsized, the children are no longer children, but I'm sure family life will prove to be just as chaotic as ever."

Claire also expressed her enthusiasm: "I'm really looking forward to being reunited with my TV family. Working on this wonderful BBC comedy doesn't feel like work and is one of the greatest joys for us all."
