Gladiators star Apollo has quashed rumours of a romance with a fellow BBC colleague, insisting he's not one to "kiss and tell".

Alex Gray, better known as Apollo, joined his Gladiators co-stars Comet and Diamond on the sofa for an interview on This Morning.

While chatting about the much-anticipated Gladiators final with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, the group shared their love for the show and recounted some of the injuries they've endured.

Ben couldn't resist probing into Apollo's personal life, teasing the possibility of a budding relationship with fellow Gladiator Sabre. "Can we talk about the romance between the Gladiators? Is there a little something something going on between you and Sabre?" Ben asked, reports the Mirror.

With a playful retort, Apollo said: "You're going to make these two jealous," gesturing towards Comet and Diamond.

Ben brought up a recent scene from the programme that showed Apollo and Sabre in a close embrace, prompting Apollo to clarify the situation.

"Hey look, Apollo doesn't kiss and tell, OK guys! We are great friends; she's an amazing woman, just like all the other Gladiators are." He then cheekily added, "But to everyone at home, Apollo is still in business, so Cat you've still got a chance!"

Cat, taken aback by his bold remark, responded: "Oh my goodness, it's getting bigger and bigger," before playfully chiding him with, "The ego! The ego!"

A viewer raised suspicions about the programme's coverage, stating: "So suspiciously no mention of Ben and Cat taking part in Gladiator trials which they mentioned a few times on yesterday's show?"

Another voiced a possible regret that the series: "ITV must be kicking themselves that they didn't bring Gladiators back."

The second series of the athletic competition show reportedly saw an improvement in the standard of its contenders. All three Gladiators stars concurred that the contestants this season were notably more impressive than before.

Expressing her perspective on the current series which is drawing to a close this weekend, Comet observed: "They've definitely upped their game. Because they saw it last year, they've gone away and trained as well. Everyone's levelled up and they're coming fierce and feisty," she remarked.

This Morning airs Mondays-Fridays from 10am on ITV1.
