Jana Nayagan Hindi Box Office Day 1: Can Thalapathy Vijay’s Swansong Deliver His Biggest Opening Ever?
Thalapathy Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, titled as Jan Neta in Hindi, is scheduled to release in theaters on January 9, 2026.
by Shalmesh More · KoimoiWe’re just a few days away from witnessing Thalapathy Vijay’s magic for the one last time on the big screen. Yes, the Kollywood superstar has officially confirmed stepping away from movies to focus on full-time politics, and with his upcoming magnum opus, Jana Nayagan, he’ll conclude his acting journey. It’s definitely an emotional moment for his fans, which ensures a massive opening at the Indian box office. However, when it comes to the Hindi-dubbed version, the numbers may not be encouraging.
For sure, Vijay has a decent following in the Hindi belt, and it would have grown over the years, but the makers of his films didn’t really try to tap the actor’s Hindi market. Still, his last film, The Greatest Of All Time, opened to decent numbers in Hindi, despite not being released in national cinema chains (PVR Inox and Cinepolis). Even Leo opened to decent numbers despite no promotions in the Hindi market.
Title change and overall low buzz harm Jana Nayagan’s potential in Hindi
Being Thalapathy Vijay’s swansong, Jana Nayagan should have targeted his highest day 1 collection in Hindi, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. To score Vijay’s biggest opening in Hindi, it must beat Leo’s 2.85 crore net, which looks slightly out of reach. The primary reason behind this is that the makers have changed the name of the Hindi-dubbed version to Jan Neta.
Time and again, we have seen that dubbed versions released under different titles than the original dilute a film’s buzz, as they impact awareness among moviegoers. Apart from the title change, Jana Nayagan has overall low pre-release buzz in the Hindi belt.
Likely to miss the first spot among Thalapathy Vijay’s Hindi openers
For Leo, the buzz of LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) and strong promotional assets did the trick, helping the film perform decently at the Indian box office on its first day. During The Greatest Of All Time, there was a halo effect of Leo, which helped it open with 2.1 crore net in Hindi.
In the case of Jana Nayagan, reports suggest that the Hindi-dubbed version will be released in national cinema chains, which significantly boosts its box office potential. Additionally, the trailer release could serve as a catalyst. Still, it might not be able to beat Leo, but it can grab the second spot among Thalapathy Vijay’s Hindi openers.
Take a look at the Hindi openings of Thalapathy Vijay’s films (highest to lowest):
- Leo – 2.85 crores
- The Greatest Of All Time – 2.1 crores
- Varisu – 81 lakh
- Beast – 55 lakh
- Master – 50 lakh
