Summer Game Fest Returns In June With A 2-Hour Showcase
Plus 'Play Days' event with over 40 publishers
by Ollie Reynolds · Nintendo LifeIt's been confirmed that Summer Game Fest will return this year with a 2-hour showcase taking place on 6th June at the YouTube Theatre in Los Angeles.
Following this, a 'Play Days' hands-on event will take place from 7th-9th June in which media and influencers can experience new and upcoming games from over 40 attending publishers.
A brand-new addition for 2025 includes what's being called a 'thought leader event' curated by Christopher Dring (previously GamesIndustry.biz) and Geoff Keighley.
This will feature key leaders from the games industry and beyond who will come together to "delve into some of the key changes, challenges and opportunities facing the global video game industry, as well as celebrate the cultural impact and importance of video games as the most powerful form of entertainment in the world".
Public tickets for the showcase will be available for purchase in Spring, but those hoping for a strong presense from Nintendo may need to temper their expectations; the publisher isn't known for collaborating much with Summer Game Fest, and with the Switch 2 launching later this year, it will likely be controlling its own message with the upcoming April Direct.
For now then, you can sign up for updates over at summergamefest.com.

This probably won't be too exciting if you're looking for Nintendo content, but we could see a lot more 3rd parties coming to Nintendo consoles from this than previous years with Switch 2 on the horizon.
I just hope we get some incredible Switch 2 game announcements.

As usual doubt I'll watch the showcase myself, but I'm looking forward to the articles about any Switch and/or Switch 2 announcements here - hope the Nintendo Life staff going there will have a good time just like last year!

I feel like the best we can hope for is that at the end of each third party trailer, theres a Switch 2 logo for around half the games coming soon. 😋

Might watch for the Switch 2 reveals but I bet this will barely address the “challenges” of the industry and mostly just be “look at this cinematic for this large company’s new AAA shooter/fantasy game”. The Game Awards are pretty much that already but we’ll see how this is.
Honestly, considering the Switch 2 will have had it's blowout by then, I might actually tune into this one. Surprisingly, the last two of Geoff's events haven't ended with my falling asleep (Though that's still in the cards, don't you worry. XD) This time around could be interesting, as many, many more games will have a chance of showing up on Switch 2. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed, but there's at least a chance. That's more than I can say for the past several years.
This is the first I've heard that the Summer Keighly's are controlled by someone other than Keighly. Not sure if that means he has a baby sitter, or just aomeone he can be a bad influence on. Like how Josh Fairhurst seems to only make things worse the more people he networks with
Just here to comment on how I loathe Geoff Keighley and how better the gaming environment would be without him in it.
