'It Takes Two' Has Sold A Staggering 20 Million Copies

It takes 20 million, apparently

Hazelight Studio's co-op platformer It Takes Two has officially sold over 20 million copies since its initial launch in 2021.

This comes via an announcement from the official social media account confirming the milestone, accompanied by an image of the game's protagonists, Cody and May. It's important to note that the platform split for this isn't available, so it's unclear how many Switch copies have been sold specifically.

Now, also keep in mind that the game crossed 16 million back in March of this year, so the fact that it's sold a further 4 million in the months since is frankly astounding.

It's received its fair share of critical acclaim, mind you, and most notably won the Game of the Year award at the 2021 Game Awards events, alongside Best Family Game and Best Multiplayer Game.

We were quite enamoured with the Switch version too, released in November 2022. In our 8/10 verdict, we said that it's "brimming with fun, uniquely committed to co-op gaming", and "plays solidly and distinctively".

That’s 20 million Moon Baboons. Good grief.

it takes two X ten million

Love to see it, overall such a great game (haven't played it myself yet even though I got it on Switch when that version came out, only watched a let's play of it)!

Happy for them. 20 millions is a lot, even more for a game that came out of nowhere.
Hope everybody who played it enjoyed themselves.

I was quite curious about this game and almost got it, before I read that the Switch version wasn't that great, like loading times were pretty long and actually showing up in the middle of gameplay sequences.
In the end, I'm not so much into co-op games either and it felt like a lot of work going through the whole game, comiting to playing it with somebody else. I did appreciate that there was an option to do that online with only one copy of the game though.

Apparently co-op gaming is a big deal? Who knew lol I'm one of those stereotypical solitary nerds.

EA: Only 20 million!? No choice but to shut down the entire studio.

It’s a great game, really varied and quite long too. I’ve only played the Switch version and found it absolutely fine, frame rate is stable and graphics are good. I didn’t find the loading times too bad.
There’s quite a lengthy demo available on eShop, so check that out if you’re curious (although they call it Friends Pass rather than demo)

Mind blowing, especially when you consider that Super Mario World on the SNES only sold 20.6 million copies world wide. Also alot of the Mario world games would have actually been packed in with the SNES.

Admittedly alot more people are into video games in 2024 compared to the mid 90's but still, impressive none the less

Are they including people playing from EA play/game pass as sales? In March when they posted about sales being 16 million they then said that over 30 people have played it and that doubling being presumably because of the friend pass thing it has, this seems to suggest that they do include subscription plays as sales as otherwise total played would be way more than than 2X total sales.

Awesome games deserves awesome amount of sales.
Hopefully more Coop games like this Will be released.

Just one of me so can't take two for me my niece and nephews has the game right now.
