Shreyas Iyer ruptured his spleen while taking a catch in the IND vs AUS 3rd ODI in Sydney. The 30-year-old felt instant discomfort and was taken to the hospital for further treatment. As per Cricbuzz, he underwent a minor surgery. Shreyas was in the ICU but has since been stable and recovering well.
The Punjab Kings captain spoke to his friends and even enjoyed home cooked meals from his friends in Australia. Shreyas was planning for a stay in Australia post the series for a short vacation, but as fate would have it he spent most of it in a Sydney hospital. India team physician Dr Rizwan Khan has kept him close company, while BCCI is arranging for a family member to travel to Sydney.
The surgery requires Iyer to rest for at least five more days, possibly even up to a week. Provided he clears fitness tests, the 30-year-old should be good to go to return to action. Iyer is not part of India’s squad for the T20I series against Australia, while is unlikely to be picked for the 2 Tests against South Africa. The IND vs SA ODI series kicks off on November, giving Shreyas more than a month to recuperate.
