NEW YORK — Carmelo Anthony is glad Giorgio Armani is back in New York City.

The NBA All-Star, who retired from the league last year, was one of many celebrities attending Armani’s spring 2025 runway show Thursday night at the Park Avenue Armory. Anthony, who helms his own fashion label called StayMe7O, chose what he described as a casual, yet timeless look for the fashion show.

“It’s just me,” Anthony told WWD as he was getting ready for the runway show. “It’s how I express myself and how I brand myself and kind of just who I am. It’s that same ‘Melo’ moniker of just self-expressing and feeling good about yourself and kind of understanding what’s your lane and having fun in that lane. Tonight, you will see that expression.”

“This is a major event,” Anthony said. “This is a major night for just fashion, myself and Giorgio Armani and what they’re doing. It’s a lot of excitement and celebrating the return — coming back here to New York. It’s been a long time since they’ve been here, so it’s exciting.”

Anthony explained he was most excited to see Armani’s newly reopened Madison Avenue flagship, which includes residential units, Giorgio Armani and Armani/Casa boutiques and an Armani/Ristorante. He also said he was looking forward to seeing the crowd’s excitement about Armani returning to New York City after last showing here in 2013.

The former NBA player is currently focusing on growing his StayMe7O brand, which debuted its Resté Melo collection during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“That was just an opportunity for us to kind of align ourselves and align the message with the rest of the world,” he said about the collection. “What better way to do that than with the Paris Olympics? So, the response was amazing.”

He said the brand will be launching several collections and collaborations in the next few months, including a holiday collection. The brand has resonated with his fans because it’s a representation of himself and his style, he said.

“It’s me right?” he said. “It’s not a brand that was made up. It’s not a brand that you had to go out there and find it. It’s who I am, it’s my expression, it’s my personality, it’s my mindset and it’s StayMe7O. I think that everybody can relate to that no matter who you are.”
