RuPaul is reportedly so devastated by The Vivienne’s death that he is "seriously considering" stepping down as host of his iconic drag competition show, according to new reports.

The 64-year-old Drag Race creator paid tribute to The Vivienne, whose real name was James Lee Williams, following their passing at age 32 over the weekend. In a heartfelt statement, RuPaul said, “With a broken heart, I join the entire Drag Race universe in mourning the loss of The Vivienne — an incredibly talented queen and a lovely human being.”

The Vivienne rose to fame as one of the standout stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK , the BBC adaptation of the popular U.S. series. They made history as the winner of the show’s first UK season in 2019, solidifying their place as a fan favorite.

RuPaul is said to be "in bits" over the news and is now contemplating his future on the UK version of the show, which has aired on the BBC for five years after achieving significant success in the U.S, reports the Mirror.

A source shared, “This has come as a complete shock to Ru. The Vivienne was one of his brightest stars, and it’s no secret how much he adored them. He’s been left utterly heartbroken and is now questioning whether he can continue hosting the UK franchise, which will always be tied to The Viv.”

Initially, RuPaul did not publicly address the tragedy, with tributes instead pouring in from other notable figures, including singer Michelle Visage and actress Lisa Riley. However, after a 24-hour silence, RuPaul shared an emotional message on Instagram honoring The Vivienne.

Reports suggest that RuPaul is considering stepping away from the UK series and potentially leaving it in the hands of co-hosts Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, and Graham Norton. However, fans of the show are already speculating about its future and whether it can continue without its legendary host.

The Vivienne, originally from Colwyn Bay in North Wales, was deeply inspired by RuPaul’s original U.S. series, which debuted in 2009. After struggling to make a living in Gran Canaria, Williams adopted the drag persona “The Vivienne,” named after their love of Vivienne Westwood fashion. Their talent and charisma helped them rise to prominence, culminating in their 2019 UK win and a later appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 7 in 2022.

The Vivienne was celebrated for their sharp wit, honesty, and memorable impersonations, including an acclaimed portrayal of Donald Trump.

Tragically, Williams was found unresponsive at their home on Sunday by their distraught father. Cheshire Police confirmed they were called to an address in Chorlton-by-Backford at 12:22 pm and stated that there were "no suspicious circumstances" surrounding the death.
